The Rules For Choosing a
Money Making Domain Name
A Good Domain Name Is Worth its Weight In
Gold
A wise man once said, “A good name is worth is value in gold.”
When it comes to the Internet, a good is tantamount to success
for so many reasons. That’s why it’s important to choose a
great domain name right from the very onset. I recently looked
at the inventory of two different gentlemen who invested a
considerable amount of money in domain names with the intent of
reselling at a profit. The problem with both of their
inventories is they both broke all of the domain name rules for
purchasing money making domain names.
Sadly, no one wants to buy any of their inventory. Even if
they built actual websites and attempted to sell the pre-built
website and content along with the domain name, it would still
be a HARD SELL! All because they didn’t know and understand the
rules for coming up with a money making domain name.
Domain Name Rule #1
The domain name shouldn’t be more than 13 characters
The exception to that rule is if the domain name is easy to
remember catch phrase such as: ThinkCarInsurance.com. Although
that domain name breaks the first rule of valuable domain
names, because it’s such a catchy phrase, the first rule is
superceded. Here’s the next example: DivorceCourtAttorneys.com.
This is another domain name that is over 13 characters,
however, it is easy to remember catch phrase.
Domain Name Rule #2
The domain name should be keyword rich
When you choose a domain name, it should always be keyword
rich. Here are some examples of good names:
MyCableMan.com –
The search engines see this domain and now it has something to
do with cable
DownloadGurus.com –
This is an excellent domain name for anything related to
downloading
Fabulouslawns.com –
This is a prime domain name for anyone in the lawn of
landscaping business
Remember, it’s all about how the search engines see the
domain name first and foremost. Unless you’ve got deep pockets
and can afford to pay the big bucks for constant advertising.
Take the website Hulu.com, that site is owned by NBC and they
pay big bucks to keep it search engines happy. But if you’re
just starting off and depending on organic traffic for your
success, your domain name needs to be keyword rich.
Domain Name Rule #3 You should not use
any hyphens, underscores, dashes and dots
Remember the two gentlemen who were attempting to unload their
domain names? One of the problems the both pf them had was a
lot of their inventory included names with hyphens. If you’re
on the radio promoting your website and you tell one million
listeners to go to: www dot make dash money dash online dot
com, how many of them do you think are going to remember what
you just said?
I can tell you not very many! Domain names with hyphens,
underscores, dashes and dots are hard to resell. Even when
they’ve got proven traffic, page rank and a high Alexa ranking.
True online marketers know how hard it is to resell these
makeshift names.
Domain Name Rule #4
You should avoid the duplicate character rule at all costs
The duplicate character rule is when one word ends with a
character and the next word starts with that same character.
For example: CarlaandJewels.com. It is a proven fact that
virtually everyone has a problem with these types of domain
names.
Domain Name Rule #5
Your domain name should be easy to pronounce, read and write
out
Here is are some examples of names that are hard to read and
write out: esculent.com and peripheral.com. If a person is has
to write down your domain name in a hurry, will they remember
it? If you can pass that test you have a good domain name.
Domain Name Rule #6 Your domain name should
be a dot com
The other extensions such as .net, .org, .info, etc., can be
used on sites that you monetize with ad programs and affiliate
programs but to use them in any major marketing program will
turn out to be a wasted expenditure of time, energy and money.
Anytime you are talking about offline marketing, not matter
what we think about .net, .info and .org, in the United States,
people are programmed to hear DOT.COM.
